Building, teaching, and writing about the craft has been his passion ever since.Īs the founder and director of Fox Maple School of Traditional Building in 1983, Chappell has instructed many hundreds of individuals over the past 30 years through hands-on workshops from Maine to California, Argentina to Alaska, Spain to New Mexico and across Canada. One of the earliest pioneers of the revival of timber framing, in 1975 Chappell started what may have been the first timber framing company devoted to designing and building new timber frames since its demise in the early 1900s. Inspired by the experience, he moved to Maine in 1973 to study the colonial buildings first hand. The group was led by a New Englander who grew up playing in his uncle's barn. His journey in timber framing began while traveling on the northern coast of California in the summer of 1970, when by chance he joined a group of individuals in the construction of a joined timber frame. Steve Chappell is a builder at heart and a teacher by nature. The IPCBI is an educational outreach program committed to helping develop new vernacular building archetypes that reflect both the cultural identity, and the environmental resources from within the community, as a way of providing both their immediate, and long-term, sustainable housing needs.Chappell has written extensively on the subject of traditional building, and is also the author of the book, A Timber Framer's Workshop. Over the past 15 years, Chappell has devoted much of his time working with indigenous communities around the world through his Indigenous People's Community Building Initiative. He founded Fox Maple School of Traditional Building in 1983, where he continues to teach and to promote the finer aspects of timber framing & traditional building in the foothills of southwestern Maine. He was an early pioneer of the timber framing revival, and a co-founder of the Timber Framers Guild. Steve Chappell has been building, teaching and writing about timber framing and traditional building for more than 35 years. This book will have a broad appeal to the Architect, Engineer and Professional Builder, as well as to the novice or student interested in the history of the Architecture and Engineering of Traditional Timber Frames. These he unfolds in a sequence of axioms, which he has developed over the past 35 years through his experience of designing, building and teaching the Art of Complex Timber Frame Roof Systems. Along with detailed and colorful chapters on the history and evolution of timber frame roof systems, Chappell goes on to present a comprehensive and highly technical mathematical treatise on the approach to determine rotated angles in a compound roof system. Using Geometry, Trigonometry and simple Mathematics, mixed with Harmonics and Musical overtones, this book is the most complete work ever written on the Architecture, Art, Design and Construction of Traditional Timber Frame Roof Systems. Beginning with the history and elements of natural design, author Steve Chappell unfolds the process of designing and building complex heavy timber frame roof systems beginning with the History and Evolution of medieval timber framing through the Design Theory, Layout and Joinery Execution. Advanced Timber Framing is a comprehensive treatise on the history, design and construction of traditional timber frame roof systems. ![]() ![]() If you're used to the way Netflix does things, you'll feel right at home on Animeflix. Rather than us kind of reflecting what's happening, that’s just human nature and probably why people like the game so much. JA: I guess I'd say it's a fundamental truth that power corrupts, people want to be followed and worshipped. How much has Cult of the Lamb been influenced by recent political events? So the game felt particularly timely in a week where the FBI raiding former President Trump’s home became a rallying cry for many of his supporters. You use lots of natural materials to like build all the buildings with and even the enemies are kind of very naturalistic, rather than trying to do lots of crazy fantasy stuff. JP: Even though there are sort of rituals and curses and supernatural elements, we kind of wanted to keep it all grounded in reality so it doesn't feel too kind of fantastical and magical crazy. It was almost like trying to make something wink that floats – if we pushed to make it darker and darker, then it would just kind of pop up and be adorable and cute. We were actually trying to push for the game to look darker, and it just kept naturally becoming cute, because that's something James and our creative director Julian are so good at. ![]() If we had a different aesthetic I think the game would be R-rated and banned in every country. JA: I think because the art direction is so cute, it gave us a license to be as horrendous as possible. So we do a lot to reward people for doing horrible things – like marrying and then murdering someone – and just pile those things on so that they become absolute monsters. Now you don't just get gold, you actually level up your character entirely, and we make it so that the higher level your follower is, the more loyal they are the more points you get. Before then, you would just get gold for doing one. ![]() JA: We actually changed the sacrifice ritual just three weeks ago. How do you incentivise someone to get hooked on ritual sacrifice and exhortation? You borrow a bit from Grand Theft Auto and Untitled Goose Game where the player is encouraged to do the bad thing. Now that the game has come out and done well we have plans to send everyone to Bali and have a big old holiday party to celebrate. I’ve got two kids now, so it was a very long time ago. JA: I think the last time we all met was three years ago, because it’s pre-pandemic. We've, we've always worked remotely and I started working with Jay eight years ago. JP: It kind of is like having a long-distance relationship, actually – we just write each other sweet messages every morning and make sure to send some flowers regularly… Honestly, I think we just got into the flow of it. Making a game across so many time zones sounds like a nightmare. Your team is split remotely across the UK, Singapore and Australia. That concept was trying to do too many things at once though, so we went back to the board and iterated for a while before pitching to a bunch of different publishers again, and basically every single one came back to us and said, ‘Yes’. They had their tribal followers, and you would still sacrifice some stuff for the head, you'd like jump off the web and go to the ground below and fight enemies. Red Line premiered at the San Diego Film Festival on September 29, 2012, where it won the U-T San Diego Award. When it came to building the set of a bombed out subway car and tunnel, the project was able to maintain a low budget by using students and faculty for all of the construction labor. The film was noteworthy for using a large number of students from the University as production crew about 60-70% of the school's 120 student population were involved in some way. ![]() While the movie incorporated on-location shooting at Hollywood and Highland subway station, most of the film was shot in a 1,200 square foot soundstage at John Paul the Great Catholic University's initial campus in Scripps Ranch, San Diego, California. Filming įilming of Red Line occurred over 25 days in summer 2011. Nicole Gale Anderson signed on as a lead actress, accompanied by John Billingsley. Leveraging the faculty's connections in the film industry, the students and professors then recruited professional crew to head up various departments, including Beverly Holloway for casting, Toby Lamm for the makeup department, David Barnaby for sound design, and Glen Hall for production design. The change was both to reduce costs and to make the piece more relevant to modern audiences. Upon the advice of Chris Riley and director Rob Kirbyson, also a professor at the school, the script was changed during the writing process to become a contemporary piece set in the subway system of Los Angeles. Screenwriting student Tara Stone pitched a World War II period thriller about people who are trapped together in a wine cellar during the London Blitz and begin to suspect that a Nazi spy is among them. The staff knew that they wanted it to be a contained space thriller due to limited budget and resources. In 2010, producers Chris Riley and Dominic Iocco, both professors at the University, challenged the school's film students to generate story concepts that could potentially be filmed in the school's soundstage. Red Line began as a "real-world experience" senior project for film students at John Paul the Great Catholic University. With another bomb ticking down and the perpetrator among them, it's a race against time for survival. Terrified subway passengers fight for their lives after a terrorist bombing leaves them trapped underground in Los Angeles' subway tunnels. The film is noteworthy for its inception as a class project and for using student interns from John Paul the Great Catholic University as a majority of the production crew. Players cannot use a charged lunars spell on the ancient/standard book, nor a charged ancients spell on the lunars/standard book, etc. In order to use the spell a runic staff is charged with, players must be on the same spellbook as the charged spells. For example, uncharging a runic staff which has been charged with 500 casts of Fire Wave will result in 2000 fire runes and 2000 air runes being removed from the staff and being placed directly into the player's inventory. Right clicking "uncharge" removes all runes from the staff. All spells for level 76 and beyond, along with spells that require an item other than a rune are simply not listed. ![]() ![]() The runic staff can cast up to level 75 spells. There has been a glitch in which it has been necessary to add the staff to the action bar and select the spell from there, but it may have been fixed. Right-clicking the staff and selecting "Set spell" brings the player to the spell menu, from which the player can select any spell (including noncombat spells, such as teleports) to use for the staff. Other skilling uses include Cure Plant for farm runs, Repair Rune Pouch for Runecrafting, or making magic tablets in a player-owned house. This does not provide immunity, however, an anti-poison totem may be a better choice for players with 70 Herblore if the off-hand slot is not needed for anything else. If the need arrives, the staff could also be charged up a potential (albeit expensive) almost endless method of curing poisons with the spell Cure Me. This makes the staff a potential 1-slot healing item for slayer tasks, which should be able to replenish lost life points. The staff could be charged up with runes for Bones to Peaches or Blood Burst without having to waste additional inventory slots for the runes for spells up to achieve level 75. For example, one could carry the staff where inventory space may be a concern such as Slaying. Potential uses for the staff might be for inventory space efficiency or to store any runes dropped from a monster temporarily. Staff runes may not be used in conjunction with any other spell than the one it is aligned to. This staff does not autocast on its own like a polypore staff. The staff only holds runes, so casting the spell is like normal, using either the regular cast, or autocast method (you must be on the same spell book). You can charge all, or charge-x and discharge the staff at any time without loss of any remaining runes. The staff can be aligned to any spell (combat or not) on any spellbook up to level 75 (you may also re-align the staff as long as it is uncharged). If you would obtain this staff by buying Unstable air runes from Travelling Merchant's Shop exclusively, this staff would cost you 750,000, leaving you with 2,500 points leftover. It costs 12,500 points, and can only be bought from Wizard Finix's Runecrafting Shop inside Wizards' Tower near the entrance to the Runespan and the Runecrafting Guild. 60 Runecrafting and 50 Magic are required to wield this Staff. It is the medium version of the staff that can be acquired from the Runespan. It can hold 500 spell charges and absorb hostile spells. The runic staff is a reward from the Runespan. ![]() ![]() That’s all Kodamas in The Two Faces of Hospitality.
